Free Download: Manuel Enriquez's "Rapsodia Latinoamericana"

Manuel Enriquez (Salazar) (1926-1994) was a Mexican composer. He wrote mainly orchestral and chamber music, as well as some film scores and songs. The Rapsodia Latinoamericana (for orchestra) was written in 1987, and this recording is performed by the Carlos Chavez Symphony Orchestra; Fernando Lozano, conductor.

Free Download: Roberto Hazon's Canti di Kavafi

Roberto Hazon (1930-) is an Italian composer who has written many vocal works, including solo song and song cycles. The 'Canti di Kavafi' was written in 1979 for voice and piano and re-orchestrated for voice and orchestra in 1982. The texts for the songs were written by Greek poet Kostas Cavafy.

This recording is performed by the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra, Encarnacion Vazquez, mezzo-soprano, and conductor Fernando Lozano.

Article on QR codes in College & Research Library News

College & Research Library News has just published their November 2010 issue including an article featuring QR codes from Alexander Street Press.

"QR codes and academic libraries: Reaching mobile users," by Robin Ashford (George Fox University librarian and "Librarian by Design" blogger), calls Alexander Street "an innovative library vendor," quotes our President, Stephen Rhind-Tutt, and includes a long explanation of how our Send-to-Mobile functionality works alongside a Music Online screenshot.

The cover of the C&RLN print issue is a QR code, which links to a delicious page with lots of resources on QR codes.

New MARC records sets available

Four new sets of MARC records have just been uploaded to http://marc.alexanderstreet.com. The new record sets include:

• Underground and Independent Comics, Comix, and Graphic Novels - This is the first set of book-level records for this collection, and it includes 133 records in MARC8 format.
• Black Short Fiction and Folkore, supplement 3 - This file includes 5 records representing 145 links to periodical sources.
• Contemporary World Music - The first set of records for this streaming audio collection includes 504 records representing 529 albums. This set is intended for customers in the U.S. and Canada only.
• Contemporary World Music, supplement 1 - This supplemental set includes 434 records representing 446 albums, and is intended for customers in the U.S. and Canada only.

Additionally, we've released several new lists of titles with URLs linking directly into our collections. Newly added title lists include:

• American Song (for customers outside of the U.S. and Canada)
• Classical Music Library (for customers outside of the U.S. and Canada)
• Classical Music Library (EMI titles available in select countries. Please view the spreadsheet for a complete list of territories where EMI content is currently available.)

• Latino Literature, supplement 1 - This set contains 82 records with links to 82 sources, in MARC8 format. To date, we've released 1,150 records for this collection.
• Dance in Video, supplement 1 - This set contains 147 records with links to 161 works, in both MARC8 and UTF8 formats. To date, we've released 244 records for this collection.
• Alexander Street Literature, supplement 1 - Please note, this supplement is intended for customer who have the full Alexander Street Literature package including drama. The set contains 215 records with links to 215 volumes, in MARC 8 fomat.
