Counseling and Therapy in Video: Volume II is now live!

Our newest online collection, Counseling and Therapy in Video: Volume II, is now live! The second volume of Alexander Street Press's award-winning Counseling and Therapy in Video features more than 300 additional hours of training videos, reenactments, and footage of actual therapy sessions conducted by renowned psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.

This collection features world-renowned therapists such as Albert Ellis, Phil Zimbardo, Allen Ivey, John Norcross, Arnold Lazarus, Otto Kernberg, Violet Oaklander, and many others, demonstrating their methods in true-to-life situations. Spanning dozens of therapeutic methods, diagnoses, and cultural groups, this collection updates and expands upon the first, and taken together,the two editions provide more than 700 hours of video.

New music content added

This was a big week for our music products: we've added a lot of content to four different collections!

• 1,837 pages of content have been added to Classical Music Reference Library, representing four titles from Princeton University Press (if this month's issue of Music Media Monthly got you in a Schoenberg mood, you're in luck: one of those titles is Schoenberg and His World).
• 28 videos have been added to Dance in Video, with styles ranging from baroque to hip-hop. Dance in Video now contains 275 hours of video from 314 different titles.
• 18 new videos have been added to Opera in Video, including a number of performances from the Royal Opera House and several documentaries. The collection now contains 174 videos spanning 488 hours. 
• The biggest news of all: Classical Scores Library is now complete! The new content added to the collection (from composers like Girolamo Frescobaldi, Antonio Vivaldi, and Diana Blom) puts it at 400,000 pages of sheet music.

The inaugural issue of Booklist Online Video Review hit in-boxes today. Video Review is "a bimonthly digital newsletter featuring new reviews of videos for adults and youth. New MARC records available

We've released 4 new sets of MARC records, which are currently available for download at http://marc.alexanderstreet.com. As always, our MARC records are freely available. You can also find MARC records for Alexander Street collections on OCLC WorldCat.

New record sets include:

• Latin American Women Writers, supplement 2 - This set contains 133 records with links to 133 sources, in MARC8 format. To date, we've released 428 records for this collection.
• Latino Literature, supplement 1 - This set contains 82 records with links to 82 sources, in MARC8 format. To date, we've released 1,150 records for this collection.
• Dance in Video, supplement 1 - This set contains 147 records with links to 161 works, in both MARC8 and UTF8 formats. To date, we've released 244 records for this collection.
• Alexander Street Literature, supplement 1 - Please note, this supplement is intended for customer who have the full Alexander Street Literature package including drama. The set contains 215 records with links to 215 volumes, in MARC 8 fomat.

The March on Washington

This Saturday marks the 47th anniversary of The March on Washington and Martin Luther King's legendary "I Have A Dream" speech. The March was organized to put pressure on Congress to pass civil rights legislation.

New performances in Theatre in Video

US and Canadian subscribers to Theatre in Video will notice that the online collection was recently updated with 23 new titles. The newly added films come from the Broadway Theatre Archive and include works by Edward Albee, Jean Anouilh, Eugene O’Neill, Lanford Wilson, Arthur Miller, William Saroyan, Neil Simon, Anton Chekhov, Thornton Wilder, and Wendy Wasserstein, among others.

Featured actors include Geraldine Fitzgerald, Linda Hunt, Meryl Streep, Alfre Woodard, John Lithgow, Jeff Daniels, Faye Dunaway, Kevin Kline, Frank Langella, Blythe Danner, Olympia Dukakis, Susan Sarandon, Harvey Keitel, Sir John Gielgud, and Sir Ralph Richardson.

Titles include Death of a Salesman, The Skin of Our Teeth, The Time of Your Life, Uncommon Women and Others, The Seagull, An Enemy of the People, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide, Fifth of July, The Good Doctor, and The Pirates of Penzance.

Ethnographic Video Online continues to grow

Since launching in February of 2010, Ethnographic Video Online has grown by more than 100 titles by important filmmakers like David MacDougal, David Plath, John Bishop, and Timothy Asch. This popular online collection now features over 400 titles equaling 270 hours of video, and is continuing to grow.

The recently added films include span from 1968 up to the present day, and cover every corner of the world, from Switzerland to Niger, Argentina to Newfoundland, Japan to Kenya, Belize to Zanzibar, Papua New Guinea to Portugal. Titles include Harambee (1974), Ajishama, The White Ibis (2003), Being Innu (2007), The Last Window (1987), Tarahumara: Festival of the Easter Moon (1976), Taking Pictures (2001), and Friends, Fools, Family: Rouch’s Collaborators in Niger (1992).  Also included now are the early films of Robert Flaherty, Nanook of the North (1922) and Louisiana Story (1948), and our first previously unreleased film, Urban Garden (2006), by Jay Sokolovsky.

134 hours of video added to American History in Video

American History in Video was recently updated with 134 hours of additional footage. The collection currently features over 4,800 videos totaling 1,215 hours.

The newly added videos include newsreel and archival films from The Big Picture, Universal Newsreels, and the Longines Chronoscope series. Additional documentaries from The History Channel® and PBS's "American Experience" series have also been added. A more detailed list of the newly added content can be seen here.
