The April issue of Music Media Monthly is now live!

Free Download: Rodolfo Halffter's La madrugada del panadero Ballet Suite, Op. 12a

Rodolfo Halffter (1900-1987) was the eldest of the Halffter composers. He was a Mexican composer of Prussian descent, who wrote works for ballet, orchestra, chamber ensemble, and some vocal music. This ballet suite, 'La madrugada del panadero (The Baker's Dawn)', was written in 1940 and premiered in Mexico City in the same year.

This recording is performed by the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra; Fernando Lozano, conductor.

Free Download: Roberto Hazon's Canti di Kavafi

Roberto Hazon (1930-) is an Italian composer who has written many vocal works, including solo song and song cycles. The 'Canti di Kavafi' was written in 1979 for voice and piano and re-orchestrated for voice and orchestra in 1982. The texts for the songs were written by Greek poet Kostas Cavafy.

This recording is performed by the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra, Encarnacion Vazquez, mezzo-soprano, and conductor Fernando Lozano.

Raised in a large, musical farm family in Rappahannock County, Virginia, Jackson (1924-2002) was the most important black Appalachian musician to come to broad public attention during the mid-1960s. Free Download: Sir Hubert Parry's Symphony No. 3 in C

Charles Hubert Hastings Parry (1848-1918) was an English composer and teacher. He composed many vocal and choral works, but also wrote four symphonies during his lifetime. This is the 3rd symphony (known as the 'English' symphony), written between 1887-1889 and premiered in 1889 in London.

This recording is performed by the Luxembourg Radio Symphony Orchestra, Leopold Hager, conductor.
