Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni (1671-1750/51) had a long career as a composer, but little is known about the details of his life. Born in Venice, Italy, his father was a shopkeeper and property owner. He married a soprano opera singer, Margherita Raimondi, with whom he had six children. Despite leaving sparse biographical details, he was quite prolific. During his career he wrote 81 operas, 100 sonatas, 59 concertos, and 8 sinfonias.
The focus of Albinoni's composing was instrumental ensemble music and secular vocal music. He helped popularize the three movement cycle, as can be seen in his oboe concertos. In this oboe concerto, Albonini treats the oboe in a similar way to the voice in arias.
