Avant-garde and Improvisational are sub-genres in Jazz Music Library. You can find by expanding the genres listed on the Browse Genres page at http://jazz.alexanderstreet.com/Browse/Genre.
Avant-garde is listed under "Jazz" and Improvisation is listed under "Instrumental".
