Glinka's opera 'Ruslan and Lyudmila' received its premiere on 9 December 1842 but was cooly received. Appreciation grew steadily until its reputation as a seminal work in the history of Russian music was established.
This is the dramatic overture to the opera, performed by the Orchestre d'Etat du Palatinat Rhenan; Kurt Redel, conductor.
